Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.n 1970, a senator from Wisconsin, USA, Gaylord Nelson first conceived of this day. The senator was worried about the rate of industrialization and the careless attitude of everyone towards our environment.

 Why it's Important. Our planet is truly a magnificent place. Known as the Blue Planet due to its abundance of water, the Earth is an incredibly complex and vibrant ecosystem, where living organisms interact with each other and their environment to create the ideal conditions for life.

Twenty years later, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.

Ways to celebrate Earth Day

• Plant a tree.
• Join an Environmental group
• Host clean-ups of local bodies of water and their shores
• Fight air and water pollution
• Cleanup litter in your community
• Reduce waste
• Say not plastic- no more straws, use  cloth bag instead of plastic bag
• Use copper water bottle instead of plastic water bottle. copper water bottle is beneficial for your health.
• Sell or donate used items instead of throwing them away
• Start a compost bin
• Save Energy and water
• Consider a vegetarian or vegan diet
• plant a vegetable garden n backyard or rooftop gardening
• Stop using chemicals in your yard and try organic methods of weed and pest removal instead
• Install a bird feeder and provide a source of water like a bird bath or a small pond.
•  Don't try to get rid of lizards, frogs, moles, squirrels, and the other creatures who want to hang out in your yard. Many of these animals are beneficial; they aerate your yard, eat mosquitoes and improve biodiversity in the area. Live and let live.
